"Remember your leaders who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith!"

-PASUGO Mayo 1968, p. 7

(Vatican Radio) Pakistan on Saturday laid to rest its famous angel of mercy, German-born Catholic nun Ruth Pfau, credited with eradicating leprosy or Hansen’s disease from Pakistan. The Daughter of the Heart of Mary Sister was accorded full state honours, including a 19-gun salute, for her priceless service. State-run television broadcast live footage of her flag-draped coffin being solemnly carried by Pakistani soldiers in the southern city of Karachi.
Mourners paid their last respects on Aug. 19 as her body was carried to the Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre that she founded before being taken on to St. Patrick's Cathedral for her final rites. The body was then taken to Karachi's Christian cemetery Gora Qabaristan, where she was laid to rest.
The burial ceremony was attended by many state dignitaries including President Mamnoon Hussain, the chief minister and governor of Sindh province as well as several top officials of Pakistan’s armed forces. Vice Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi, who laid floral wreaths on her grave.
Widely known as Pakistan's Mother Teresa, Sr. Pfau died on Aug. 10 at age 87, after being admitted to Karachi’s Aga Khan Hospital a few days earlier suffering from old age complications.
Mission to serve
Born on Sept. 9, 1929 in Leipzig, Sr. Ruth Pfau studied medicine in the1950s at the universities of Mainz and Marburg in then West Germany. After her graduation she joined the religious order of the Daughters of the Heart of Mary, which sent her on mission to India. On her way she stopped in Karachi on March 8, 1960, because of some visa problems. It was here that she became involved with working with people affected by leprosy or Hansen’s Disease.
In 1961 she went to Vellore, South India to acquire training in the management of Leprosy. She then returned to Karachi to organize and expand the Leprosy Control Programme. Her Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre in Karachi, Pakistan's first hospital dedicated to treating the disease, today has 157 branches across the country.
Recognition
Sr. Pfau has won numerous honours and prizes in Pakistan and abroad for her humanitarian services. Germany awarded her the Order of Merit in 1969. In 1979, the Pakistani government appointed her Federal Advisor on Leprosy to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. Pakistani government honoured her with the Hilal-e-Imtiaz in 1979 and the Hilal-e-Pakistan in 1989. She was granted Pakistani citizenship in 1988. In 2002 she won the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award, regarded as Asia’s Nobel prize.

CNA: Isang Samurai sa Japan, Malapit nang Maging Santo ng Iglesia
![]() |

Tokyo, Japan, Feb 8, 2017 (CNA/EWTN News).- A 17th century Catholic Samurai and martyr was beatified during a Mass in Osaka, Japan on Tuesday.
Cardinal Angelo Amato, Prefect of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Causes of Saints, presided over the Beatification Mass of Justo Takayama Ukon, who was declared a martyr by Pope Francis in January last year.
Takayama Ukon was born in 1552 in Japan during the time when Jesuit missionaries were being introduced within the country. By the time Takayama was 12, his father had converted to Catholicism and had his son baptized as “Justo” by the Jesuit Fr. Gaspare di Lella.
Takayama's position in Japanese society as daimyo (a feudal lord) allowed him many benefits, such as owning grand estates and raising vast armies. As a Catholic, Takayama used his power to support and protect the short-lived missionary expansion within Japan, influencing the conversion of thousands of Japanese.
When a time of persecution set in within the country under the reign of Japan's chancellor Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1587, many newly-converted Catholics abandoned their beliefs.
By the 1620s, most missionaries were either driven out of the country or into underground ministry. These missionary priests would have been of the same era as those featured in the recent movie “Silence” by director Martin Scorsese. Although the film is based on a fictional novel by the Japanese author Shusaku Endo, many of the events and people depicted in “Silence” are real.
Instead of denying their faith, Takayama and his father left their prestigious position in society and chose a life of poverty and exile. Although many of his friends tried to persuade Takayama to deny Catholicism, he remained strong in his beliefs.
Takayama “did not want to fight against other Christians, and this led him to live a poor life, because when a samurai does not obey his 'chief,' he loses everything he has,” Fr. Anton Witwer, a general postulator of the Society of Jesus, told CNA in 2014.
Ten years passed, and the chancellor became more fierce in his persecution against Christians. He eventually crucified 26 Catholics, and by 1614, Christianity in Japan was completely banned.
The new boycott on Christianity forced Takayama to leave Japan in exile with 300 other Catholics. They fled to the Philippines, but not long after his arrival, Takayama died on February 3, 1615.
In 2013, the Japanese bishops' conference submitted the lengthy 400-page application for the beatification of Takayama to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. On Jan. 22, 2016, Takayama's advancement in the cause for canonization was further promulgated when Pope Francis approved his decree of martyrdom.
“Since Takayama died in exile because of the weaknesses caused by the maltreatments he suffered in his homeland, the process for beatification is that of a martyr,” Fr. Witwer explained.
Takayama's life exemplifies the Christian example of "a great fidelity to the Christian vocation, persevering despite all difficulties," Fr. Witwer continued.
"As a Christian, as a leader, as a cultural person, as a pioneer of adaptation, Ukon is a role model and there are many things we can learn from him,” Father Renzo De Luca, and Argentinian Jesuit and the director of the 26 Martyrs Museum in Nagasaki, told Vatican Radio.
“In this era of political distrust, I think he will be helpful for people other than Christians.”

Defiant Sister Maria Restituta hung crucifixes on the walls of her hospital, and wouldn't take them down
LARRY PETERSON APRIL 12, 2016
Source: Aleteia
Sister Maria Restituta began Lent of 1942 under arrest. She was taken on Ash Wednesday. Her crime: “hanging crucifixes.” She was sentenced to death. The following year, on Tuesday of Holy Week, she was executed.
May 1, 1894, was a happy day for Anton and Marie Kafka. Marie had just given birth to her sixth child and mom and daughter were both doing fine. The proud parents named their new baby girl Helena. Devout Catholics, Anton and Marie had Helena baptized into the faith only 13 days after her birth.
The ceremony took place in the Church of the Assumption, in the town of Husovice, located in Austria. Before Helena reached her second birthday, the family had settled in the city of Vienna.
Helena was a good student and worked hard. She received her First Holy Communion in St. Brigitta Church during May of 1905 and was confirmed in the same church a year later. After eight years of school she spent another year in housekeeping school and, by the age of 15, was working as a servant, a cook, and being trained as a nurse.
At age 19, she became an assistant nurse at Lainz City Hospital. This was Helena’s first contact with the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity and she was immediately moved to become a sister herself, and on October 23, 1915, became Sister Maria Restituta. She made her final vows a year later and began working as a nurse.
By the end of World War I, Sister Restituta was the lead surgical nurse at Modling Hospital in Vienna. She had never heard of Adolf Hitler and could never have imagined that one day, because of this man, her beloved nation would be annexed into the German Republic.
On March 12, 1938, the Austrian Nazi Party pulled off a successful coup d’etat taking control of the government. The unforeseen and unimagined had come to pass, and Hitler now controlled the once proud Austrian nation.
Sister Restituta was very outspoken in her opposition to the Nazi regime. When a new wing to the hospital was built she hung a crucifix in each of the new rooms. The Nazis demanded that they be removed. Sister Restituta was told she would be dismissed if she did not comply.
She refused. The crucifixes remained on the walls.
One of the doctors on staff, a fanatical Nazi, would have none of it. He denounced her to the Party and on Ash Wednesday, 1942, she was arrested by the Gestapo as she came out of the operating room. The charges against her included, “hanging crucifixes, and writing a poem that mocked Hitler.”
The Nazis promptly sentenced her to death by the guillotine for “favouring the enemy and conspiracy to commit high treason.” They offered her freedom if she would abandon the Franciscans she loved so much. She adamantly refused. Although many nuns lost their lives in the extermination camps, Sister Restituta would be the only Catholic nun ever charged, tried, and sentenced to death by a Nazi court.
An appeal for clemency went as far as the desk of Hitler’s personal secretary and Nazi Party Chancellor, Martin Bormann. His response was that her execution “would provide effective intimidation for others who might want to resist the Nazis.” Sister Maria Restituta spent her final days in prison caring for the sick. Because of her love for the crucifix — or rather, the One who was died upon it — she was beheaded on March 30, 1943.
The day she died happened to be Tuesday of Holy Week. She was 48 years old.
Pope John Paul II visited Vienna in 1998 and there beatified Helena Kafka, the girl whose destiny was service. She was declared Blessed Maria Restituta. She had learned how to serve others extremely well. But the One she served best of all was her Savior. She gave Him her life.
Blessed Marie Restituta, please pray for us.

Another brainless comment from a member of the INC™ of Felix Manalo, taken from "Katie Holmes: Nagbalik-loob sa Iglesia ni Cristo"
Nakikita mo ba ang larawan sa itaas?
Ito ang KA'ABA ng Mekka sa Saudi Arabia. Ito ang tawag nilang "BLACK STONE"!
Binibihisan!
At inaalayan!
Kailan ba naging "dios" sina Maria, Jose, Juan, Bartolome, Mateo, Santiago, Lukas, Agustin, Domingo, Francisco, Lorenzo Ruiz, Pedro Calungsod?
Takot kayong mamatay ano?
Pinapaliguan!
Binibihisan!
At inaalayan!
CATHOLIC DOCTRINE CONTRADICTS THE BIBLE?
How sure are you when your INC™ Church of Manalo just celebrated their 100th Year Anniversary, built an ARENA (for their god INC) and NAMED a place to CIUDAD DE VICTORIA (City of Victors o LUNGSOD ng MANALO?!)
When the Bible was written and compiled by the Catholic Church in c.380 A.D. your INC™ Church of Manalo wasn't even there. The Apostles never called themselves "Iglesia Ni Cristo Ako" phrase?!
None of the Apostles or early Christians EVER identified themselves as "INC Ako"!
DO NOT FORGET Mr./Ms. INC™ member, that BEFORE the BIBLE came to be, THE CATHOLIC CHURCH came FIRST!
And because of the CATHOLIC CHURCH that the WHOLE OF CHRISTIANITY have BIBLE!
So how could the OWNER of the BIBLE contradicts ITSELF? That's ABSURD!
I'd rather believe the MORE OBVIOUS... FELIX MANALO CONTRADICTED THE BIBLE!
When FELIX MANALO denied JESUS-- his being GOD who BECAME FLESH (Man - kasi di naman pwedeng "magkatawang-tao" ang isang TAO NA!), HE (Felix) IS the FULFILLMENT of the COMING DECEIVER and ANTI-CHRIST"

Galing sa Facebook page na 'I Love My Catholic Faith' |

A Syrian Catholic priest has been publicly executed by rebels at a monastery in the northern Syria, the Vatican says, BBC reported.
Father Francois Murad, 49, was beheaded on 23 June when militants attacked the convent where he was staying.
The Vatican news agency said the circumstances of the killing were not fully clear.
But local sources said the attackers were linked to the jihadist group known as al-Nusra Front.
Unconfirmed video footage claiming to show the priest's death, together with that of two other unidentified people, has been posted on Catholic websites.
Father Murad had moved to the convent in the area of Gassanieh for safety reasons, the Vatican said.
He was a member of the Franciscan order, the official custodian of Christian sites in the Middle East.
Father Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the head of Franciscans in the region, said Syria had now become a battleground not only between Syrian forces but also between Arab countries and the international community.
"Let us pray so that this absurd and shameful war ends soon and that the people of Syria can go back to living a normal life," he said.
Correspondents say many of Syria's ethnic and religious minorities are being drawn into the conflict as the fighting intensifies and becomes more sectarian in nature.
Gunmen in northern Syria abducted two Orthodox Christian bishops in April as they travelled from the Turkish border back to the city of Aleppo

Mga Martir ng Iglesia sa China, Inaalala ngayong araw!
Optional Memorial of St. Augustine Zhao Rong, priest and companions, Chinese martyrs

Augustine Zhao Rong and companions
Christianity arrived in China by way of Syria in the 600s. Depending on China's relations with the outside world, Christianity over the centuries was free to grow or was forced to operate secretly.
The 120 martyrs in this group died between 1648 and 1930. Most of them (eighty-seven) were born in China and were children, parents, catechists or laborers, ranging from nine years of age to seventy-two. This group includes four Chinese diocesan priests.
The thirty-three foreign-born martyrs were mostly priests or women religious, especially from the Order of Preachers, the Paris Foreign Mission Society, the Friars Minor, Jesuits, Salesians and Franciscan Missionaries of Mary.
Augustine Zhao Rong was a Chinese soldier who accompanied Bishop John Gabriel Taurin Dufresse (Paris Foreign Mission Society) to his martyrdom in Beijing. Augustine was baptized and not long after was ordained as a diocesan priest. He was martyred in 1815.
Beatified in groups at various times, these 120 martyrs were canonized in Rome on October 1, 2000.
