Scores of Muslims Turning to Christ in Middle East; Churches Expecting 'Millions' of Converts

Thousands of Muslims are turning to Jesus Christ and what they view as the "religion of freedom" amid ongoing bloodshed in the Middle East, reports indicate. Some churches hope that millions of people will accept Christ amid a "spiritual hunger" that is forming in the wake of persecution.

(REUTERS/Thaier Al-Sudani)Iraqi Christians attend a mass on Christmas at St. Joseph Chaldean church in Baghdad, Iraq December 25, 2016.

Voice Of the Martyrs Canada, which supports Christian radio broadcasts in the region, told BosNewsLife that despite the mass exodus of Christians from Iraq and Syria due to terrorism, persecution, and war, scores of Muslims are making the decision to embrace Christianity.

"There are thousands upon thousands coming to Christ," VOMC revealed. "We are in regular contact with our FM stations in Iraq and have talked with many people who have family in the Middle East."

"Some of our Middle Eastern broadcasters have shared testimonies [about many turning to Christ] with us, which they hear directly from listeners when visiting there ..."

In Iran, Christian house churches are regularly targeted and shut down by the nation's Islamic government. Despite this persecution, mission group Elam Ministries revealed that Christians have been growing in terms of numbers, and today estimates suggest there are 360,000 believers in Iran – up from only 500 in 1979.

"Church leaders believe that millions can be added to the church in the next few years -- such is the spiritual hunger that exists and the disillusionment with the Islamic regime," Elam Ministries stated.

"If we remain faithful to our calling, our conviction is that it is possible to see the nation transformed within our lifetime. Because Iran is a strategic gateway nation, the growing church in Iran will impact Muslim nations across the Islamic world."

Muslim refugees in Europe have also reportedly been undergoing mass conversions of faith. A June 2016 article from The Guardian noted anecdotal data of rising Christian church attendance in Europe by Muslims.

Trinity church in the Berlin suburb of Steglitz, for instance, saw its congregation rise from 150 to 700 due to new Muslim converts, while the Austrian Catholic Church saw its applications for adult baptism swell by nearly 70 percent in the first three months of 2016.

"I found that the history of Islam was completely different from what we were taught at school. Maybe, I thought, it was a religion that began with violence," an Iranian convert, 32-year-old Johannes, said.

"A religion that began with violence cannot lead people to freedom and love. Jesus Christ said 'those who use the sword will die by the sword.' This really changed my mind," he added.

More churches in Germany reported this growing phenomena in December 2016, with The Independent noting that Muslims, especially Iranians, are seeing Christianity as a new chance at freedom.

"A lot of them come to Germany and think, here I can choose my religion and I want to choose a religion of freedom," said Matthias Linke, a priest from the Evangelical-Freikirchlichen Gemeinde in Berlin.

"For many Iranians that I've baptized, Christianity is the religion of freedom."

Muslim mother supports her Catholic priest son

From Asia News |
Mathias Hariyadi 10/13/2015

The Muslim family of Robertus B. Asiyanto joyfully participated in his ordination in Maumere. His mother laid her hands on the altar: "I'm really happy with my son’s choice". The island of Flores is one of the few predominantly Catholic areas of Indonesia.

Jakarta (AsiaNews) - A Muslim woman blessed her son, a Catholic deacon, at the altar of the church where shortly after he was ordained priest. The incident happened three days ago in the chapel of the Major Seminary of Maumere on the island of Flores. Eleven deacons, belonging to the Divine Word Missionary order (SVD), were ordained in the presence of Msgr. Vincensius Poto Kota Pr, Archbishop of Ende.

Sites Asiyah, wearing Islamic dress (including the hijab), was accompanied by her son Robertus B. Asiyanto, nicknamed "Yanto", and laid her hands on his head, under the gaze of his adoptive father who was watching from the front with the rest of the family. "I'm really happy to see my son ordained a Catholic priest," said the woman at the end of the celebration.

The island of Flores, Eastern Nusa Taggara province, has the highest concentration of Catholics in the country, who form the majority of the population of the island. This is why it is rare for a Muslim family to willingly accept the conversion of a son to Catholicism, given that it is a rare event. Central Java is Muslim majority, but many men and women religious come from Muslim families, and it is not seen as exceptional.

In southern Sumatra the different paths of twin sisters has become famous: one is a devout Muslim, and has participated in the last pilgrimage (hajj) to Mecca; the other became Catholic and entered the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (Pbhk) of Merauke, on the island of Papua. Both are happy and have good family relationships.

Miss USA: Dating Muslim Umanib na sa Tunay na Iglesia

Salamat sa Diyos! Tara na! Dito na po tayo sa TUNAY na Iglesia na TATAG mismo ni Cristo!

Mula sa ChurchPOP

When Rima Fakih was crowned Miss USA in 2010, she was believed to have been the first Muslim winner. But since then, she has come to Christ: in the last few weeks she converted to Catholicism in preparation for her upcoming marriage to her Catholic fiance.

Fakih is set to marry Wassim Salibi, who is a Maronite Catholic, later this month in Lebanon where she grew up. The Maronite Catholic Church is one of 23 Eastern Catholic Churches that, while maintaining their Eastern traditions, are in full communion with the Pope.

Fakih has said in interviews that her family was nominally Muslim growing up and that she attended Catholic schools. However, she says she started to take her Muslim faith more seriously in college.

She’s also not the first in her family to convert. “My brother-in-law is Christian,” she told the Huffington Post in 2010, “and he (and my sister) baptised their two sons. I have an uncle who converted to Christianity, and he’s a priest now.”

According to a report from an Austrian media, Kurier; the Austrian Bishops’ Conference have estimated that over fifty (50) Muslims including people who practice other religions have been converted to Catholicism and will be baptized this year.

Most of the Muslims who have converted to Catholicism are mainly migrants from Syria, Afghanistan, and Iran. This figure is up from one-third in 2015. The Austrian Bishop conference has estimated that the rising number of Muslims-converting-to-Catholicism is expected to increase in 2017 due to the fact that there has been an increase in the number of refugees arriving in Vienna in recent months and because the conversion process, known as the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, takes up to a year to complete.

The Archdiocese in Vienna is handling between five and 10 adult baptism requests per week, Kurier says.
